Located in the centre of the Khorat Plateau, 449 km from Bangkok, Khon Kaen is the second largest province of the Northeast Thailand. It's the Northeast centre of commerce, administration and education with a lot of important establishments as the Khon Kaen University, Ubolrat Dam and a branch of Tourism Authority of Thailand. The province covers the area of 10,886 square kilometers and is divided into 26 districts.

Khon Kaen was founded by Rajakruluang in 1783 during the reign of King Rama I. Some artifacts have shown that the area was dominated by dinosours millions years ago. The area was occupied by people in various cultures during the prehistorical era until it was expanded by the ancient Khmer Empire in the 12th century. Before reaching to its present location at Nuang Kaw in 1879, its main city has been moved six times. Since the beginning of the 20th century, Khon Kaen has become an admitristrative centre of the country.

Lying among the fastest growing regions in Thailand, Khon Kaen has a wide range of attractions, make sure that visitors with any interest, in various cultures, history will find something to relax and keep them entertained on holiday in Khon Kaen. The province offers a lot of attractions, including cultural and historical heritage sites, ancient towns, national parks and forests. Silk Fair and Phuk Sieo are festivals held annually to exhibit the promotion of silk production.
