Lying in the heart of the Khorat Plateau and covered with forest areas, Nong Bua Lam Phu is Thailand's neweast province. It covers an area of 3,859 square kilometers, 568 km from Bangkok and is divided into six districts including Mueang Nongbua Lamphu, Non Sang, Na Klang, Si Bun Rueang, Na Wang and Suwannakhuha.

Nong Bua Lam Phu Province is a province ungraded from District Nong Bua Lam Phu of Udon Thani province on December 1st, 1993, making it become the 76th province of Thailand. It has more than 900-year-old history with numerous pre-historic archaeological evidences. Its official name “Nong Bua Lam Phu – Nakhon Kuan Kun Kab Kaew Bua Ban” means “The town of abounding water with blooming lotus flowers”.

The province features a large variety of natural attractions with mountainous and picturesque lakeside scenery, tantalizing cultural and historical sites, including beautiful temples, fascinating archaeological sites, many national parks. Some of popular cultural and historical sites are King Naresuan the Great Statue, Wat Tham Suwannakhuha temple, Wat Tham Klong Phen temple, Noen Wat Pa ancient worship, etc. The most spectacular tourist attractions here is the Phu Kao – Phu Phan Kham National park which offers excellent scenic glory, lofty mountains, intriguing caves, dense forests, splendid waterfalls and prehistoric drwings. It has nine mountains rich in fauna and flora with stone terraces, caves and waterfalls in it. The massive Erawan caves are the other fascinating destination which hosts a large statue of Lord Buddha among beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations.

The rich culture of the local people here is illustrated through series of fairs and festivals taking places annually. The most colorful festivals are the Boon Bung Fai Festival and Rocket Festival held in each June. Holy Erawan Cave Pilgrimage in April and King Naresuan the Great Fair in January are the popular ones. You can enjoy many intersting activities as well as religious ceremonies and entertainment performances organized during these.
