Thailand History

Thailand has more than two thousands years of history since the immigration of the Thai people in the 1st century. Thai people set up their first governments in the early days of history. The history of Thailand went through many ups and downs and experienced the threat from the Burma and Vietnam for years as well as the confrontation of Laos. In the end of 19th century and the early 20th century, Thailand was the only exception for not being the colony of European countries. After the ending of the absolute mornachy in 1932, Thailand was under military rule in 60 years before the current democracy.

In 1932, a group of young military officers and civil servant made the Sisame Revolution which transforming the Government of Thailand from an absolute to a constitutional monarchy. Under the great power of military, King Rama VII initially accepted this change, but then he abdicated because of conflicts with the government.

Due to the weakness of Khmer Empire, Thai state had the chance to be independent from this controlling power. The kingdom of Sukhothai was established as an independent sovereign by Pho Khun Si Indrathit in 1238.

The earliest of Thailand started with the migration of the Tai people from Yunan in the 1st century. According archaeologists, basing on archaeological evidence of cooper tools, wet rice civilization have flourished in Thailand for thousand years.
